UFC 168: Team Hayabusa Breakdown
The ultimate rematch between former UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva and current Champion, Chris Weidman caps off the UFC’s year-end card in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, December 28th.
It’s been just five months since the world witnessed Chris Weidman’s second-round knockout of the legendary Anderson Silva, becoming the first new UFC Middleweight Champion since 2006. Silva promises not to make the same mistake twice and regain his title as Weidman defends the belt for the first time.
The event also features another highly anticipated rematch of longtime MMA rivals, current UFC Bantamweight Champion, Ronda Rousey and fellow The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Coach, Meisha Tate.
Rounding off the stacked main card is Travis Browne vs. Josh Barnett, Jim Miller vs. Fabricio Camoes, and Dustin Poirier vs. Diego Brandao.
Team Hayabusa in Action
Travis Browne (15 - 1 - 1) vs. Josh Barnett (33 - 6)
This match-up pits two top-ten heavyweight contenders looking for another victory to quickly move up the title shot list. Barnett’s dominant return to the UFC in August stopped Frank Mir via a first-round TKO. He now stands at ten wins from his past eleven professional fights.
Browne enters the match-up with two impressive knockout victories, defeating both Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga in 2013.
Watch for Josh Barnett gear up in Hayabusa Haburi™ Compression Shorts during his second UFC appearance since his return.
Gleison Tibau (28-9) vs. Michael Johnson (13-8)
Lightweight fighter, Gleison Tibau is riding back-to-back victories after rebounding from a decision loss to Evan Dunham at UFC 156. He returned three months later with a second-round guillotine choke against John Cholish at UFC on FX 8. More recently, Tibau defeated Jamie Varner via a split decision at UFC 164.
Johnson’s recent unanimous win over Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston put his career back on track after two consecutive losses to Myles Jury and Reza Madadi.
Tibau teams up once again with Hayabusa, sporting the innovative Chikara™ Performance Shorts on the prelim card.
Robbie Peralta (16 - 4) vs. Estevan Payan (14 - 4)
Robbie Peralta gets back inside the octagon after a six month suspension. He looks to rebound from a decision loss to Akira Corassani back in April. Before the setback, Peralta won nine out of his last ten fights, with only one recorded no-contest.
UFC newcomer and fellow featherweight, Estevan Payan lost in his May debut against Jeremy Stephens, breaking his streak of eight fights without a loss. Peralta will sport the Chikara™ Performance Shorts as he kicks off the UFC 168 prelim card.
